I find it most amusing when walking by the tiny living rooms of the houses on my street to look in and see a family staring at the gigantic television set mouted on their living room wall. The family, enjoying the evening’s entertainment, are almost blinded by the blazing light from the TV, a scene that reminds me of an old nuclear holocaust video from years ago, where the occupants of a house were blasted into oblivion, leaving only their shadows remaining on the opposite wall.
Mind you, I’m only jealous. I’d love a super massive TV, but Mrs Hayward puts her foot down and scuppers my viewing plans for our own tiny living room. Saying that, though, she hasn’t yet cast her eyes on this monster: the world’s first 84” ultra HDTV!
It’s Blooming Big!
84 inches is pretty massive, by any stretch of the imagination, especially for a Lowestoft three-bed terraced. LG has certainly gone all out to make sure its flagship model is ready for the New Year, as you can expect to see this unit in the shops from Christmas 2012 onward. There is a catch, however: it costs just shy of £22,500.
The technical specifications of this thing are just as impressive as the price: a resolution of 3840×2160, a motion clarity index of 800MHz, full cinema 3D, conversion of 2D to 3D, an Extreme viewing mode (whatever that is), intelligent sensors, a three-way ten-speaker system, a built-in camera, built-in wi-fi, 2nd TV ready and many SmartTV applications already programmed in. Interestingly, I couldn’t find any information on exactly how much it weighs. We imagine it would be quite a lot.
Many Features
In addition to the aforementioned list of wonderful features, you also get the LG Home Dashboard, which, for the uninitiated, is a start screen that helps you easily connect to all the social media type features that the 84LM960V has in store for you.
By using the Magic Remote, you can surf your way through LG’s Smart Share, whereby you can share music, photos and videos across all your smart devices and access the usual plethora of social media sites. Moreover, the Magic Remote can also navigate the menus and sub-menus of the TV through the power of speech. Simply shout something semi-coherent into the remote and the TV will no doubt pick up your harsh Northern Irish accent and take you to wherever it is you want to go.
More TV
Another interesting feature this TV boasts is it’s 2nd TV ready. This, as it turns out, is a feature that enables the TV to instantly send the image being shown to any number of smart devices. Let’s say, for example, you and family are watching the latest blockbuster, then you hear the distant popping of the popcorn you have in the frying pan. Rather than miss the movie or, heaven forbid, pause it for a few moments, you can take your smart device out of your pocket and view the movie while away from the TV.
However, it’s not all TV and movie related; the 84LM960V boasts some marvellous gaming opportunities. As well as having a huge playing area, the 84LM960V has a Dual Play function, whereby each player wears a special set of glasses, and instead of split screen gaming, each player sees their own full screen perspective without halving the screen size.
Gwad Bless ‘Er
The 84LM960V should be available to you now, providing you can fork out £22,500. Still, there’s always Christmas next to look forward to. Imagine Her Majesty, in 84 inches of 3D regal glory!
